Prevent Pests with These 3 Easy Home Improvement Projects

Prevent Pests

Most homeowners think they’re doing all they can to prevent pests from invading their living quarters. But they may be wrong.

With decades in the exterminator business, we know a thing or two about how to prevent pests. We know with flies bombarding your summer barbeques and ants attacking your picnics, the last place you want to see bugs is in your own home.

The simplest solution is to call a pest control specialist to spray the area. However, there are some things you can do to help protect your home on your own.

Here are three easy home improvement projects you can start today:

1.Seal All Cracks

Bugs and rodents can only get into your house if there is an opening for them. Sealing up the cracks will help limit the number of entrances available.

An added advantage is that it will help you save money on utilities as well. Your house will stay heated or cooled longer when there are no spaces for the air or bugs to pass through.

Some trouble spots to look out for are around windows and doorways.

2.Fix Those Leaky Faucets

Like all living things, bugs and rodents need water to live. As a result, these critters are attracted to leaky faucets. They give the pests the hydration they need to survive.

Also, a moist area is a great breeding ground for these bugs. If you have a faucet that is leaking below a cupboard, get it fixed as soon as possible. Luckily, these repairs don’t take much time.

In fact, with the right supplies, you can fix the leaky sinks and cracks around the doorway all in one day.

3.Plant a Garden

If you’ve got a green thumb, this next home improvement project is right for you! There are certain plants that bugs do not like.

Some of these include marigolds, catnip, citronella and horseradish. Plant these around the perimeter of your house or keep them inside your home.

If you already have an indoor herb garden, be sure to add basil and rosemary to your mix. Bugs do not like these plants much either.

If you don’t want to spend the time planting new foliage, you can also get dried leaves of these plants, crumble them up and sprinkle them around the area.
