Hantavirus and Leptospirosis
Most commonly found in mice and rodents, hantavirus is a condition that can lead to fever and respiratory issues, and can be fatal in some extreme cases. It’s mostly found in the droppings from rodents, or dust found in particles from their urine.
Also found in rodents and their droppings is a bacterial disease called leptospirosis. Leptospirosis can be as mild as a fever or as significant as organ failure, brain swelling and death.
Food Contamination
Food-borne illnesses like dysentery, salmonella and gastroenteritis are all caused by bacteria formed through pest infestations. These can lead to all sorts of issues with pain and dehydration, and in the gastrointestinal tract. They’re most commonly spread by things like flies, mice and roaches.
West Nile Virus
Particularly common in areas with lots of mosquitos, West Nile Virus can become dangerous or fatal quickly. People in these areas will need to take special precautions.
Asthma and Respiratory Problems
People who have asthma, allergies or other respiratory issues often find these issues exacerbated by pest infestations. Roach droppings release a protein that causes asthma attacks, for instance, and there are several other triggers involving pests.
