Bird Damage Is a Facility Problem, Not a Nuisance
Pigeons, starlings and sparrows corrode steel, foul HVAC equipment and leave health hazards above the people who work below them. We design permanent bird exclusion for warehouses, hospitals, bridges and parking structures across Utah, and we install bird netting in Idaho, Nevada and Wyoming too. We’ve been at it since 1961.
Bird droppings are acidic. Left in place, they:
- Corrode steel and roofing: canopies, I-beams, galvanized pipe, rooftop units and bridge components.
- Foul air handling: droppings and nest debris near HVAC intakes and air shafts become an air-quality problem.
- Create slip and liability hazards at loading docks, entrances and walkways.
- Carry disease and parasites that cleanup crews need to handle properly.
- Fail audits at food and pharmaceutical facilities.
Pigeons return to an established roost, so a small flock grows fast once it settles.

Featured Commercial Bird Control Projects

Meta — Eagle Mountain Data Center
Small and large birds were nesting behind three very large entrance façades, each a different design, leaving a dropping mess Meta’s staff cleaned up every day. We cleaned all three and sealed the back side with StealthNet you can’t see from the ground.
3 large façades · 3 different designs · invisible from grade

Utah Department of Transportation
Two brand-new overpasses had 175-foot seismic access openings, the kind of recess pigeons and starlings move into. We custom-built netting to seal them before a single nest went in.
2 overpasses · 175 ft × 3 ft openings · all species excluded

Costco Wholesale
Pigeons had taken over the steel canopy above a staffed security checkpoint. We cleaned and sanitized it, then sealed it with one continuous StealthNet barrier without shutting the checkpoint down.
~10,000 sq ft of netting · 870 ft of steel cable · 10-year warranty

University of Utah Hospital
The air shaft had an irregular shape, and one wall could not be reached by lift or scaffold. Our rope-access technician rappelled it and fitted the net edge to edge.

SOLV Energy — Solar Farm Inverter Stations
81 inverter stations on a large solar farm in Utah’s West Desert. We designed the entire bird exclusion system and had stand-off poles custom made to hold the netting off the equipment.

Bird Netting: The Permanent Fix
Netting doesn’t scare birds away. It removes the space they want, so it’s the only method that ends a large-structure problem for good.
- We install Bird Barrier StealthNet on a tensioned steel-cable framework that keeps it drum-tight for decades.
- ¾-inch mesh blocks every bird species, from pigeons to sparrows.
- Colors are chosen to blend with the structure.
- Where netting meets corrugation and beams, we seal gaps with PVC-coated mesh so birds can’t walk around it.
- Systems carry a 10-year manufacturer warranty.
Best for: canopies, loading docks, parking structures, open-beam ceilings, air shafts, bridge recesses, signage and rooftop equipment.

Spikes and Deterrents: Stop the Landing
Where birds perch rather than nest, such as ledges, parapets, signs, light fixtures and beams, we make the surface impossible to land on.
- Stainless-steel spikes (Bird-Flite, Dura-Spike) are blunt, humane and hard to see from the ground.
- Bird-Shock Flex-Track gives birds a mild shock that teaches them to stay off high-visibility ledges.
- Bird wire, BirdSlide and Bird-Coil cover rails, I-beam flanges and gutters.
- Wind-driven reflectors turn in the breeze and flash light birds avoid. We designed and installed a 65-unit layout across HF Sinclair’s Salt Lake City refinery.
- Optical Gel is a sight, smell and touch deterrent for spots where hardware won’t work.
Best for: ledges, parapets, signage, beam flanges and rooflines where birds land but don’t nest inside.
Avitrol, Trapping and Cleanup
Avitrol: flock dispersal
When a large flock has settled across a site, physical barriers alone can take too long. Avitrol is a restricted-use bait that causes a few birds to act distressed and call out, which alarms the rest of the flock so they leave the area. Our applicators are manufacturer-trained and certified, and we control placement, timing and monitoring to protect non-target species. Avitrol usually comes before netting or deterrents: it reduces the flock, and the exclusion keeps birds from coming back.
Trapping and flock reduction
Pigeon and sparrow traps reduce a population before exclusion goes in. Trapping alone doesn’t stop new birds from arriving, so we pair it with netting or deterrents.
Cleanup and sanitation, always first
Before any netting goes up, we remove birds, nests, eggs and droppings, then sanitize the area. Netting over an active nest traps the problem inside, and it’s the step inexperienced installers skip.

Which Method Is Right for Your Building?
| Situation | What we usually recommend |
|---|---|
| Birds nesting inside a canopy, garage, shaft or open-beam ceiling | Cleanup, then steel-cable netting |
| Birds perching on ledges, signs or parapets | Spikes, Flex-Track or bird wire |
| A large flock settled across a site | Avitrol or trapping to reduce the flock, then exclusion |
| Unusual geometry or no lift access | Custom-fabricated netting with a rope-access install |

How a Commercial Bird Job Works
Step 1
Inspect
We find where birds roost, nest and enter. For rooftops, canopies and building faces you can’t see from the ground, we fly a high-definition drone. Our pilot holds an FAA Part 107 remote pilot certificate and a commercial pilot license. Many companies offering drone inspections aren’t licensed, which puts the liability on your property.
Step 2
Propose
You get an itemized proposal: square footage, cable runs, lift or rope access, cleanup scope and warranty, line by line.
Step 3
Clean
We remove nests, eggs and droppings and sanitize the area before anything is installed.
Step 4
Install
Netting, deterrents or Avitrol, scheduled around your operations, including active security, production and patient areas.
Step 5
Protect
Netting is backed by a 10-year manufacturer warranty, and we stand behind the work.

Commercial Bird Control FAQ
How much does commercial bird control cost in Utah?
It depends on the method and the size of the job. Netting is priced by square footage, cable runs, lift or rope access, and cleanup scope. Large canopy projects run well into five figures, while a loading dock or sign is much less. Spikes and deterrents are priced by linear foot. Every A-1 quote is itemized.
Is bird netting better than spikes?
They solve different problems. Netting stops birds from getting into a space, such as a canopy, garage or shaft. Spikes stop birds from landing on a surface, such as a ledge or sign. Where birds are nesting, netting is the permanent fix.
Is Avitrol safe and humane?
Avitrol is a restricted-use product that only certified applicators can use. It affects a small number of birds, and their distress calls disperse the rest of the flock. We control placement and monitor the site to protect non-target birds.
Can you remove swallow nests?
Barn and cliff swallows are protected by federal law, so active nests can’t be disturbed. We time removal and exclusion for after the nesting season and install deterrents before the birds return in spring.
How long does bird netting last?
StealthNet on a steel-cable framework carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty, and properly installed systems routinely last longer.
What mesh size do you use?
¾-inch StealthNet. It blocks every bird species, including sparrows and starlings, so there’s no need for a finer mesh.
Will installation disrupt our operations?
Usually not. We netted Costco’s checkpoint without shutting it down and finished the University of Utah Hospital air shaft on ropes instead of scaffolding.
Do you work outside Utah?
For bird netting, yes. We install commercial bird netting in Idaho, Nevada and Wyoming as well as statewide across Utah. Our other bird control services cover all of Utah.
Do you use drones for inspections?
Yes. We inspect rooftops, canopies and building faces with a high-definition drone flown by an FAA Part 107 certified pilot.
Do you do residential bird control?
Yes. Most of our bird work is commercial, but we protect homes too. Reach out for a free quote.
